What do people think of the changes TGL will have for season 2?

Do you even have interest in the simulator league backed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy?

  1. Hopefully they switch to trackman or allow challenges for when the software clearly misreads the shot (they won’t).

  2. 0_SomethingStupid

Love the updates. Its only going to keep getting better.

  3. It’s a nice change up for the winter time when very few locations are viable for tour events. The team energy is good and works in a way that is hard to replicate on course outside of maybe the Ryder cup.

I wouldn’t consider myself a TGL fan but I consume a lot of the golf content out there (pro and YouTube) so I’m excited to have something with some funding that is being actively tweaked/developed.

I think it’s really about how well they execute from here. Can they improve on the format and come up with more ways to make it interesting? Will we move away from some of these blowouts and get a few more close matches? I’m excited to find out.

  5. I really tried to like it last year. I’ll def give it a go again this year but I have a hard time getting into it. Don’t know why honestly. A significant part of it is the inherent lack of faith in perfection of the sim software. I’m sure it’s largely accurate but there were a couple of questionable shots last year which throws the details of other shots into question for me. And if that’s the case… I dunno just not ringing my bell.

These all seem like good changes. Personally, I think they need more focus on the broadcast than the game play. They need a better announcer, or at least a colour commentator to analyze shots and talk strategy. They also need to scrap that Marty guy; he’s an auto-channel change for me.

  7. NoHalfPleasures

I love PLAYING golf. I can’t watch a pga event. It’s like watching paint dry to me. But for reasons I can’t really explain, I love the TGL. AMA.

  8. gmiller89

I wish they got the green to work as intended for season 1. They raved about the hundreds of actuators that could change the slopes of the greens between every hole

  9. Golfshoeaddiction

I loved watching TGL. It was fast paced and you could see the personality or lack there of by the players. The changes look to be good.

  10. HittingItFlush

I think it would be really cool if fans could create their own courses and vote on which ones they play.

I tried to like it but totally fell off after a couple of rounds. I still think it’d be better if it was youtubers and celebrity teams. I’d much rather watch “former NFL QBs” take on Bob does Sports or something like that. Especially considering the software doesn’t seem to work right and the green always seemed a bit wonky.

  12. nekoken04

I watched a bit of this last season. It wasn’t terrible. The changes all sound reasonable.
Best moment of the season was when somebody completely misunderstood the distance and pulled out a short iron.

Are the announcer and “on course reporter” going to be the same two dweebs that know next to nothing about golf?

Are they going to shoehorn in idiotic non-golf celeb interviews?

Is the event going to fall off a cliff at half time and be unbearable to watch for the last 45-60m of each match?

I still say they need to go all in on craziness. Have golden tee style holes, reverse mulligans, play holes with 200% gravity. Go wild.

  14. Need_Programming_Job

I hope they have the players mic’d up more to hear their strategy and banter

  15. miller10blue

I actually enjoy it. Players going shot for shot in real time without any walking delay is pretty fun for me.

  16. drakesdrum

Needs more holes that force creative shots. I’m talking wacky things now and then like fizzing a bit slinging hook through a space rocket type stuff

  17. jackhammburgerhelper

It’s a fun thing to watch on a cold Tuesday night when there’s nothing else to watch

  18. Reaper930

I actually paid to go see TGL in person last season, flew from Dallas to Florida to check it out. Would definitely do it again!

  19. emack2232

They need Golden Tee style holes. Just a few ridiculous ones that they can try wild shots.

There is legitimately a solid premise here and a product that can absolutely be viable. Its just missing…. something. Granted, I’m not sure what that something is. Some changes might help, but we’ll see.

  22. As long as we’re bringing Kisner back. The chip he bladed into the stick, and then almost holing the shot back, was the moment of the first season.

  23. a_Food_lover

As long as Matt Barrie is gone I’ll be happy.

  24. They need to find a way to make people care about the teams. It doesn’t matter what they do if nobody actually really cares which team wins. It’s the same with Liv golf.

  25. Am I the only one who doesn’t like how similar it is to the golf they play every week? It’s a digital golf course, do things to make it harder than any golf course could. Give them walls with a square opening forcing them to hit a certain shot, do holes that go 80degrees up requiring tons of launch angle, have a hole with less gravity idk. I know it sounds more cartoonish but it’s a digital product differentiating itself from outdoor golf. Put these elite golfers to actual tests you can’t see anywhere else.

  26. I just wish the players took it more seriously.
Like still have fun, the televised banter (access) is a huge part of its appeal vs traditional golf.

But the parts where they’re horsing around (using wrong clubs, throwing putts etc is) is dumb; and makes it hard to watch.

If they’re not going to taken seriously, I’d much rather watch non-pros (say, local teaching pros, or club scratch golfers) compete for the money.

I tuned in a fair bit for season 1. Was tough to really get into it for me though, mostly because the announcing / commentating was pretty garbage and a lot of the matches seemed to be blowouts.

As far as the announcing goes, they need better color commentary. Someone that will talk a little strategy and analyze the shots being hit. And a little bit of irreverant shit-talk mixed in. A lot of what I remember from the season 1 commentating was that it was always trying to be too hype and energetic and serious all the time. Need to go the Inside the NBA route. Make it more fun / funny. At the end of the day, its a bunch of middle aged guys in an arena hitting balls at a screen. Start throwing some shade at them if they’re getting their asses kicked. Part of that comes down to the players too. I think it would be a better product from the entertainment standpoint if they were all down there with some beers, just being more relaxed, having fun and shit-talking each other over every little mistake. The best part of season 1 was that bladed bunker shot from Kisner, where Tiger and everybody else was on the ground laughing their asses off while the crowd was chanting “ONE OF US” over and over. That’s exactly the type of energy this format needs. Heck, get Rob Riggle and Joe Tessitore to be the broadcast crew a-la Holey Moley style.

  28. therealDL2

They need one player of each team to be a celebrity or entertainer type. Golfers in general are pretty bland and boring. One person on each team talking smack every night would really make it better.

  29. OaxacaJones

The announcers and schtick are just so bad. Legitimately cringe-inducing interviews and attempts at banter. Either bring in legitimately funny people or just play it straight. Don’t have a NASCAR coverage guy attempting to do crowd work.

And don’t talk about fucking hammer-throw statistics/strategy ever again.

  30. Still-Status7299

Its not for me unfortunately. I’d rather watch anything else

  31. weightyboy

Watched to first two episodes got boring really quickly, not going to watch it again

  32. Wish they were changing the format of the holes they play. It doesn’t make sense for a team competition to finish with 6 holes of 1 vs. 1 while the first holes they are alternating shots

  33. NotoriousMFT

I want more cartoonish unrealistic in real life holes.

Give me a par 12, make them choose between a 330 yard carry or a 200 yard layup, put in simulated wind on the screen that goes 50 mph

Make them have to think about ridiculous situations they never had to prepare for

  34. I would be upset if they didn’t make changes. This is a pilot or proving ground for what people want to watch. You have the best players in the world – what format can we come up with and tweak to get it to be a really interesting product? The only thing that’s not really discussed openly is how they strategize and manage the ad load / sponsorships. They need ad revenue and they don’t have the simplicity of The Masters which is the members and CBS and the merch tents basically fund everything. Real opportunity here to find a balance.

  35. Changes I’d like to see:
    1. Pro-AM gameweek, each team has a celebrity playing during one round of games.
    2. Stop making the holes look like real golf holes, get creative and force more risk taking/shot shaping.
    3. In hole incentives, bonus points if you hit a certain area of fairway, aerial ring targets etc.
    4. Mic. Up. Everything. We want to hear every word from the pros.

  36. thestaltydog

I was skeptical at first but I found myself watching each week. It was a nice Monday/Tuesday evening watch that scratched my golf itch during winter months. I’ll be tuning in for this season.

  37. drrockz87

The regular season was pretty boring but the playoffs were intense.

As long as my boy Rickie is in it I’ll check it out again.

  38. Mountain_Suspect_313

No golf on in December, so I’ll take what I can get

  39. championstuffz

Keep faking it till you make it. The digital league with hilariously inaccurate data from their system. Every wedge is bombed and 3 woods are checking.

Just can’t get behind the overall premise and promise when they don’t deliver on any of it. This is coming from someone that watches and follows golf all year.
